Show Up.
Change a life.
Your time and energy can help give a dog a safer, happier life and a whole lot more room to zoom.
Be Part of the Work
Fences For Fido is fueled by people who show up. Whether you’re building a fence, delivering supplies, supporting a veterinary clinic, helping at an event, or lending your skills behind the scenes, you’re helping create safer, healthier lives for dogs and the people who love them.
There’s no one way to volunteer with Fences For Fido. Whether you want to get your hands dirty, share a special skill, help out at an event, or lend a hand when you can, there’s a place for you here.
Why Volunteer With
Fences For Fido?
Volunteers are at the heart of Fences For Fido. They build fences, deliver doghouses and essential supplies, support families, help at veterinary clinics, transport dogs, lend their professional skills, and do so much of the work that makes our Circle of Care possible.
But volunteering is about more than what gets done. It’s about the people you meet, the families you get to know, the dogs you help, and being part of something that makes a real difference. Within just a few hours, lives can change, including our own.
No matter how much time you have or what skills you bring, there’s a way to show up.
Find Your Way to Get Involved
Fence Build Volunteer
Get your hands dirty and help build a safe, secure yard where a dog can run, play, and be part of the family. No construction experience is necessary, our volunteer Crew Leaders will show you what to do.
Dog Transport
Help a dog get to a veterinary care appointment.
Pet Food or Supply Delivery
Help deliver pet food and essential supplies to Fido families and communities where access to those resources can be limited.
Doghouse or Shade Structure Delivery
Help build or deliver warm shelter and shade structures that give dogs protection from the elements.
Community Outreach & Events
Help us connect with the people and communities who make this work possible. Volunteer at events, help share the Fences For Fido story, or support outreach in the communities we serve.
Rural Veterinary Clinic Support
Help make veterinary care more accessible in rural and geographically isolated communities. Volunteers may help with setup, supplies, check-in, family support, or other clinic needs.
Administrative or Remote Support
Not all of the work happens in a yard. Lend your skills from wherever you are by helping with communications, outreach, research, fundraising, data, or other behind-the-scenes needs.
Do I need fence-building or construction experience?
No experience is needed! Our volunteer leaders will show you what to do and provide guidance throughout the build.
How old do I need to be?
Volunteers must be 18 or older to participate in fence builds. Age requirements for other volunteer opportunities may vary.
Do I need to bring tools?
No. Fences For Fido provides the tools and equipment needed for fence builds. Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes, dress for the weather, and bring water.
How physically demanding are fence builds?
Fence builds can involve digging, carrying materials, and working on uneven ground. Tasks vary, and volunteers are encouraged to work at a pace that feels comfortable.
How long do volunteer activities usually last?
Most fence builds last several hours. Start and end times are included in each volunteer opportunity so you’ll know what to expect before signing up.
Where do volunteer opportunities take place?
We serve communities throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. You can choose opportunities based on your location and availability.
Can I volunteer occasionally?
Absolutely! There’s no regular commitment required. Join us whenever an opportunity works for your schedule.
Can groups volunteer together?
Yes! Friends, coworkers, and community groups are welcome. Contact us in advance so we can help find an opportunity that works for your group.
Are accommodations or less-physical roles available?
Often, yes. Tasks vary, and there may be less-physical ways to help. Contact us if you have accessibility needs or questions about whether an activity is a good fit.
What happens if weather affects an activity?
If weather requires a build to be delayed, rescheduled, or canceled, registered volunteers will be notified as soon as possible.
What happens after I register?
You’ll receive information about the activity and any next steps. Additional details about timing, location, and what to expect will be shared before the activity.
Who should I contact if I have a question?
Contact the Fences For Fido volunteer team at volunteer@fencesforfido.org with questions about volunteering, upcoming activities, accessibility, or group opportunities. We’re happy to help!
What should I expect at my first volunteer event?
We’ll make sure you have the information you need before you arrive, including where to meet, what to wear or bring, and what to expect that day. When you get there, a Fences For Fido team member or volunteer leader will welcome you, introduce the group, explain the project, and help you find a task that fits your comfort level and abilities. No prior experience is needed for most opportunities – we’ll provide guidance along the way.
