Our Mission

Fences For Fido is the only unchaining organization in the Pacific Northwest. We provide free fences, warm shelter, veterinary care, and essential pet support to socially, financially, and geographically isolated communities – ensuring dogs can live free, healthy lives with the families who love them.

Every Fence Opens the Door to a Full Circle of Care.

We build safe fences for dogs who have been living chained outside, and that’s just the beginning. Through our Circle of Care, we provide the shelter, food, veterinary care, spay/neuter and other support families may need to keep their pets safe, healthy, and at home.

Because behind every dog is a family.

We show up.
We get work done.
We Stay.

One fence.
One dog.
One big idea.

In May 2009, a group of Portland friends built their very first fence for Chopper, a Labrador mix who had spent years on a chain.

From One Fence
to a Movement.

What started around a kitchen table quickly grew into a volunteer-powered movement, building fences across Oregon and Southwest Washington.

Changing the Law, Changing the Conversation.

In 2013, Fences For Fido helped make history by championing Oregon’s first law limiting the amount of time a dog can be tethered.

4,000+ Fidos Unchained.

Over 17 years, Fences For Fido has helped more than 4,000 dogs experience the freedom of a safe place to live, run, and play with their families.

Numbers Don't Lie
